I decent album by two guys from Portland...that's it, just two people! Sometimes they sound like they stole a few melodies but overall its a pretty easy going electronically-incorporated indie album.

This is my favorite band of this year so far. They sound like a primitive and subdued yet more harmonious version of At Dawn-era My Morning Jacket (making up for Evil Urges.)

Beach House / Devotion (2008)
This is the first of a section where music will be compared to food, and I have to give credit to my brother because it was his idea.
Beach House's extremely sweet and glittery new album, Devotion, was as easy choice: CUPCAKES. Devotions is lite and sweet and a nice for dreamy celebrations just like a cupcake. (Disclaimer: I may have been influenced by the cover just a little bit).
I had heard a while back that MMJ had been playing songs off of Evil Urges at recent shows and according to a few critics the new songs reached an almost dancey-groove feel and even leaned over the edge of R&B. Oddly enough it's kind of true, at least for the first part of the album. Everyone has been mentioning how the second half of the album redeems itself, but it may just take a little bit for everyone to settle down and accept the fact that My Morning Jacket are no longer the barefootin' alt-country cats they appeared to be.
This is a really enjoyable album that caught my attention with "Tane Mahuta", but cannot be judged by that track alone, nor any track alone. They stretch their sound from laid back lo-fi rock to mariachi quartet but still keep a world beat-tribal undertone throughout. The New Zealand band's delightful tunes seem to be bringing in the warm weather.
